1956 Ford Big Window Pick-up

The Ford F-100 with the "big window" or "wrap-around" rear window holds a special place in automotive history, particularly among truck enthusiasts. This design feature was part of Ford's effort to offer a more stylish and functional truck that stood out in the burgeoning post-war American automotive market.

The big window feature was introduced in the mid-1950s as an option for the Ford F-100 series trucks. This design was part of Ford's second-generation F-Series lineup, which debuted in 1953.

The "big window," officially known as the "Deluxe Cab," was more than just a design gimmick. It was an expression of the era's optimism and the automotive industry's move towards vehicles that offered both utility and style. The wrap-around window enhanced the truck's lines and gave it a more modern and sleek appearance, aligning with the design trends of the 1950s that favored panoramic windows and increased visibility.

The big window option was more expensive than the standard rear window, which led to fewer sales and, consequently, fewer trucks manufactured with this feature. As a result, these trucks are relatively rare and highly sought after by collectors. Prices for well-preserved or accurately restored models can be significantly higher than those for standard window versions.

Only 6,200 of the 1956 F-100s Big Windows were built. The Ford F-100 with the big window is more than just a truck; it's a piece of American automotive history that symbolizes a time of innovation and transition in the automotive industry. Its rarity and distinct design continue to captivate enthusiasts and collectors alike.
